Craig Lewis of the Clean Coalition is a moderator at the 4th Annual Port Electrification US Conference, which takes place in Long Beach, CA on 9-10 June 2026. Craig Lewis is moderating the panel “Redefining Port Energy Systems with Solar & Storage” on 9 June at 2:00 PM – 2:50 PM, and will cover topics such as:
- Operational and economic benefits of solar and storage deployment
- Addressing grid constraints with on-site power solutions
- Integrating microgrids for resilience and peak shaving
- Planning for future energy needs and infrastructure scalability
- Leveraging smart controls and energy management systems for efficiency
- Lessons learned and case studies from ports and other relevant sectors
American ports are continuing to make progress toward zero-emission operations to reduce environmental impacts and improve air quality in surrounding communities. Ports such as Long Beach, Oakland, Seattle, Tacoma, and Los Angeles are implementing shore power for vessels, deploying zero-emission drayage fleets, and electrifying cargo-handling equipment (CHE). With federal funding limited or frozen since 2025, ports are increasingly relying on state programs, utility partnerships, and alternative investment models to move electrification projects forward.
The transition to electrification remains challenging, requiring extensive infrastructure upgrades, significant investment in new technologies, and coordination across multiple stakeholders. Ports must manage growing electricity demand, integrate new charging systems, adopt data-driven operational tools, and work closely with utilities to plan high-capacity infrastructure.
Building on the success of previous editions, Global Transmission is organizing the 4th annual conference on Port Electrification US on June 9-10, 2026, at The Westin Long Beach.
Participants will gain insights into the latest initiatives from leading port authorities and terminal operators, including shore power implementation, CHE and drayage electrification, and the integration of renewable energy and storage.
The conference will focus on:
- Sharing lessons learned from operational deployments of electric fleets, shore power, and port infrastructure.
- Addressing key challenges, including high-power demand, grid integration, and operational readiness.
- Showcasing technologies and exploring new approaches to managing rising power demand, including solar and storage, microgrids, AI, and smart energy management.
- Sharing insights on state programs, partnerships, and financing models supporting deployment, especially under limited federal funding.
- Bringing together experts from across the sector to share insights, experiences, and emerging solutions.
The 2026 edition provides an opportunity to see, discuss, and learn from what is happening today and explore solutions to accelerate the transition to zero-emission ports.
