California Alliance for Community Energy hosted Ben Schwartz of the Clean Coalition to present on minimizing transmission infrastructure.
California’s current electrical planning processes consistently call for a greater amount of utility-scale generation and a buildout of costly transmission infrastructure. This 20th century mentality has led to the second highest electrical rates in the nation, with double digit increases on an annual basis, and a state not currently on track to meet climate & energy goals. This conversation explained why a massive infrastructure buildout is not the most cost-effective or efficient way to proceed, provide some solutions to help get us back on track, and address the benefits of getting to at least 25% local energy.
