The Clean Coalition was a partner organization for the National Distributed Energy FutureConference, which tookplace on November 2-3, 2016 in San Francisco, CA.
The National Distributed Energy Future Conference answered how electric utilities, public utilities commissions, and independent grid operators manage thousands (millions) of distributed energy resource (DER) transactions that could take place in the wholesale and distribution markets. Speakers discussed if cost, safety, reliability, and clean energy requirements can be balanced effectively in this scenario. And attendees learned if there is a distribution service platform today that can manage such a system in real time.
The conference gave an overview oncutting edge policy and technology developments from utility representatives, policy-makers, distributed energy resource providers, and discussed engaging topics including:
- How will states like Minnesota, Hawaii, California, New York, and others invest in new grid infrastructure to enable a growing number of new DER providers to supply grid services?
- How will the U.S. Department of Energy help develop new distribution service platforms that will potentially enable new markets on the distribution grid?
- Which technology companies are furthest ahead in developing the distribution service platform of the future?
