Solar Microgrids – How They Deliver Unparalleled Solutions for Facility Resilience, Load Growth, and Power Quality – 30 May 2024

Craig Lewis of the Clean Coalition presented during this event on 30 May 2024.

Solar Microgrids – How They Deliver Unparalleled Solutions for Facility Resilience, Load Growth, and Power Quality

Thursday, 30 May 2024 from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. at the Santa Barbara Foundation

  • Craig Lewis’ presentation slides are available in PPT and PDF format.

The event focused on:

  • Achieving unparalleled energy resilience, along with economic and environmental benefits.
  • Accommodating significant load growth, including for adding substantial levels of EV Charging Infrastructure at facilities that go way beyond what SCE’s available grid capacity could accommodate.
  • Securing power quality that is significantly better than what SCE is willing and/or required to provide.
Presenters:

Craig Lewis is Founder and Executive Director of the Clean Coalition, a very technical nonprofit
headquartered in Santa Barbara with a mission to accelerate the transition to renewable energy and a
modern grid. Craig founded the Clean Coalition in 2009 and has over 30 years of experience in policy and technology innovation, including the proliferation of Solar Microgrids and Community Microgrids. Prior to founding the Clean Coalition, Craig held numerous positions in the wireless, semiconductor, banking and renewable energy industries. Previously VP of Government Relations at GreenVolts, he was the first to successfully navigate a solar project through California’s Renewable Portfolio Standard solicitation process. Craig was energy policy lead on Steve Westly’s 2006 California gubernatorial campaign. His resume includes senior government relations, corporate development, and marketing positions at leading wireless, semiconductor and banking companies such as Qualcomm, Ericsson and Barclays Bank. Tim Hade (LEED AP), Chief Development Officer and Co-Founder, Scale Microgrids, recently moved to Santa Barbara with a $100 million funding allocation to bring Solar Microgrids to the Santa Barbara region. Scale Microgrids focuses on developing sustainable distributed generation technologies to serve mission critical facilities. Prior to co-founding Scale, Tim served as the Business Development Manager for ENER-G Rudox (now Centrica Business Solutions), where he oversaw development of the company’s microgrid projects, and built the company’s performance contracting division. In 2015, Tim’s white paper “Sustainable Load Balancing: Integrating Distributed Natural Gas, Solar PV, and Energy Storage Assets” was named the 2015 Renewable Energy World Paper of the Year. Prior to joining the clean tech industry, Tim served on Active Duty as an officer in the United States Air Force. He holds a B.S. from the United States Air Force Academy and an MBA from Stanford University.
