The Clean Coalition’s Greg Thomson presented on our North Bay Community Resilience Initiative at The Business of Local Energy Symposium, which took place on June 4-5, 2018 in Sacramento, CA. Mr. Thomson presented on both days of the symposium.
The Business of Local Energy Symposium allowed attendees to share best practices and create more benefits for local communities, including theacceleration of Community Choice Agencies. There was also a pre-symposium workshop in the afternoon of June 4th on distributed energy resource projects that build local resiliency, provide unique customer services, and contribute to local economic development.
2018 was a watershed year for Community Choice in California. There were nine operational Community Choice Agencies with another 10 likely to be online the following year. They are emerging as a powerful force, but there are regulatory and legislative uncertainties which must be proactively addressed. Community Choice Agencies are also still clarifying their purpose, developing their business models, defining themselves, and differentiating themselves from the investor owned utilities. This symposium explored these opportunities and challenges with the experts in the field.
