Mr. Bernhardt’s panel, “Distributed Energy Resource Options for Microgrids,” discussed the projected rapid growth in the markets for distributed energy enabling technologies, including biogas/diesel/natural gas generators, fuel cells, solar PV, and distributed wind. These projections are driven by rising power prices, desires to control long term energy costs, and a number of government regulations and incentives for curbing carbon emissions and increasing renewable energy integration. This panel of renewable energy experts and developers and system integrators looked at each option, highlighted the pros and cons of each, and made the business case for some of them.
