Community Energy Resilience webinar: Resilient Schools, Safe Communities – Wednesday, 8 Jul 2020 at 11am PT

Executive Director Craig Lewis presented at this one-hour webinar, which took place 8 July 2020.

Executive Director Craig Lewis presented on our microgrid work with the Santa Barbara Unified School District for The Climate Center’s Community Energy Resilience webinar, “Resilient Schools, Safe Communities,” which took place on Wednesday, 8 July 2020 at 11am – 12 noon PT. The Clean Coalition is a partner organization for the Community Energy Resilience Series, which runs through August 2020.

Power shutoffs in 2019 disrupted the schedules of local schools across California. Increasing wildfires have threatened life and property, and frequently left evacuees with nowhere to go. The COVID-19 pandemic and economic downturn will only compound this crisis, hampering people’s ability to find shelter in an emergency.

In this webinar, discussions focused on solar+storage applications and microgrids for school and community needs. These technologies have the ability provide schools with significant financial benefits while simultaneously providing a resource for backup power during grid outages.
